US Visa Denials Linked to Immigrant Social Media Activity

Social Media Posts Impacting US Immigration Visas

The United States has announced a new policy to scrutinize visa and green card applicants’ social media activity for content deemed antisemitic. Effective immediately, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will deny entry or residency to individuals whose online posts express support for groups like Hamas or Hezbollah.

Homeland Security officials have emphasized a zero-tolerance approach toward admitting individuals suspected of supporting terrorist ideologies. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that approximately 300 international students have already had their visas revoked under this policy.

This measure is part of a broader initiative, known as “Catch and Revoke,” which utilizes artificial intelligence to identify and revoke visas of foreign nationals exhibiting pro-Hamas sentiments on social media.

Travelers are advised to be mindful of their digital footprints, as border officials have the authority to search electronic devices and review social media activity. Instances have been reported where individuals were denied entry due to online content critical of the U.S. administration.
