Akpabio Calls Out Natasha for Misrepresenting Nigeria

Akpabio Urges IGP to Prosecute Senator Natasha

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, requesting an investigation and prosecution of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for alleged criminal defamation.

The petition, dated April 3, 2025, and also addressed to the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, comes in response to statements made by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan during an April 1 speech in Kogi State. In her address, she accused Akpabio of instructing former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to orchestrate her assassination within Kogi State to make it appear as though her constituents were responsible.

Akpabio refuted these allegations, describing them as “heinous lies” and a “reckless and deliberate attempt” to damage his reputation, endanger his life, and incite political unrest. He emphasized the seriousness of the claims and urged the IGP to take immediate action to investigate and prosecute Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for criminal defamation.

This development adds to the ongoing tensions between the two senators, following previous accusations by Akpoti-Uduaghan that Akpabio had deprived her of opportunities to represent her constituents after she rejected alleged inappropriate advances from him. These earlier claims led to her suspension from the Senate.
