Eedris Abdulkareem Responds to NBC’s Ban on His New Song
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has banned Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest song, “Tell Your Papa,” from being aired on radio and television stations in Nigeria. In a memo dated April 9, 2025, Susan Obi, the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, cited the song’s “objectionable nature” as the reason for its classification as “Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB)” under Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
In response, Abdulkareem criticized the ban, stating that in Nigeria, “truth and constructive criticism is always deemed as a big crime by the government.” He described the current administration as “one of the most insensitive, vindictive and grossly maleficent” in the nation’s history. Reflecting on the country’s lack of progress, he remarked, “Any wonder why Nigeria hasn’t made impactful strides all these years?”
“Tell Your Papa” directly addresses Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, urging him to inform his father about the nation’s deteriorating socio-economic conditions. The song has gained significant attention on social media platforms, with many users supporting Abdulkareem’s message.
