Nnamdi Kanu Issues Apology for Attacks on Judge

Court Dismisses Nnamdi Kanu’s N50 Billion Suit Against Nigeria

On April 10, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a ₦50 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), against the Federal Government. Justice Inyang Ekwo struck out the case due to lack of diligent prosecution, noting the absence of legal representation for both Kanu and the Federal Government during multiple scheduled hearings.

Kanu had initiated the suit in April 2022, alleging violations of his fundamental rights following his arrest and extradition from Kenya. He sought, among other reliefs, an order for his release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) and an injunction to halt further prosecution in his ongoing criminal trial.

The Federal Government responded with a preliminary objection, arguing that the suit constituted an abuse of court process, citing a similar case previously filed by Kanu at the Federal High Court in Umuahia.
