Mourning in Niger: Three Brothers Die in Two Weeks
The Lapai community in Niger State is mourning the tragic loss of three brothers from the same family within a span of two weeks. The most recent incident occurred on Thursday morning, April 10, 2025, when two brothers, Ismail Alaba and his sibling, reportedly drowned in the Katcha River while returning home after purchasing bags of rice. Eyewitnesses suggest that their canoe may have capsized, leading to the fatal outcome.
Prior to this, the family had already been grieving the loss of their eldest son, who sustained severe injuries during a local football match and, despite efforts to save him, succumbed to his wounds.
The late Ismail Alaba was well known in the Lapai community. Described by many as cheerful, hardworking, and sociable, Ismail operated a thriving Point of Sale (POS) business located at the Low-Cost Junction in Lapai. His sudden death, along with his brothers’, has sent shockwaves throughout the town.
