FG Defends Tinubu: Appointments Free from Bias
The Federal Government has firmly denied allegations of regional bias in President Bola Tinubu’s appointments, asserting that all selections adhere strictly to the federal character principle as outlined in Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution. This response follows criticisms from various quarters, including Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South, who accused the administration of favoring the South West in key appointments.
In a statement released on Friday, April 11, 2025, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to fairness, equity, and national unity. The statement highlighted that appointments are made based on merit, integrity, and geographical representation, ensuring that all regions and demographics are adequately represented in government institutions and agencies.
Addressing Senator Ndume’s specific allegations, the Presidency pointed out that two individuals from Ndume’s own senatorial district hold significant positions at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), challenging the notion of regional favoritism. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, criticized Ndume’s claims as lacking factual basis and driven by selective perception.
The government reiterated its dedication to fostering a sense of inclusion and unity across Nigeria, assuring that all appointments are made with the nation’s best interests in mind, devoid of ethnic or regional bias.
