According to a recent report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 58% of Nigerian households are connected to the national electricity grid.
This statistic highlights the ongoing challenges in achieving widespread access to reliable electricity across the country.
The figure underscores the disparity between urban and rural areas, as urban households tend to have better access to the grid compared to rural communities, where electricity access remains a significant challenge.
The report also points to issues such as inconsistent power supply, infrastructure deficits, and the slow pace of rural electrification efforts.
Efforts are underway by the Nigerian government to improve energy access through initiatives like expanding the grid, increasing investment in renewable energy, and boosting off-grid solutions such as solar power systems for remote areas.
However, much work remains to ensure more Nigerians benefit from stable and affordable electricity.
