Unexpected Halt: Port Harcourt Refinery Stops Operations Days After Resumption
The Port Harcourt Refinery, which recently resumed operations after years of inactivity, has reportedly halted production just three days after resumption.
The refinery, which underwent a $1.5 billion rehabilitation project, was expected to produce about 60,000 barrels of crude oil daily in its first phase of operation.
Reports indicate that the suspension was due to technical issues, raising concerns about the quality of the rehabilitation work and the refinery’s readiness for sustained operation.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, which manages the refinery, is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
This development has sparked public frustration, as the refinery was expected to play a significant role in reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products and alleviating the current fuel scarcity.
Many Nigerians are calling for greater transparency and accountability in the management of the nation’s refineries.
