Urgent Care for Gunshot Victims: No Police Clearance Needed Says FG
The Nigerian Federal Government has mandated public and private hospitals to attend to gunshot victims without demanding police clearance.
This directive aligns with the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017, which ensures that victims of gunshot wounds or related emergencies receive immediate medical attention.
The Minister of Health, Muhammad Ali Pate, emphasized this during a meeting with the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
He highlighted the importance of prioritizing lives over bureaucracy and urged healthcare providers to act swiftly in emergencies.
Dr. Pate also reassured medical practitioners that they have the government’s support when providing life-saving interventions.
This move is aimed at reducing preventable deaths and addressing delays in medical care caused by requirements for police clearance.
