No XEC Variant in Nigeria: Government Reassures Public Amid Global Concerns
The Federal Government of Nigeria has clarified that the newly detected XEC COVID-19 variant has not been found in the country.
This assurance comes in response to growing public concerns about the global emergence of new variants of the virus.
The Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, stated that while the NCDC continues to monitor the global and regional spread of COVID-19 variants, there has been no confirmed case of the XEC variant in Nigeria to date.
The agency emphasized its readiness to detect and respond to any outbreaks, leveraging enhanced genomic surveillance and public health measures.
The government also reiterated the importance of continued adherence to preventive measures, including vaccination, proper hygiene, and wearing masks in crowded or high-risk areas.
