Understanding Lagos State’s Groundbreaking Human Organ Transplant Law
The Lagos State Government recently signed five important new laws, with one of the key bills being the Human Organ and Tissue Transplantation Law.
This law is designed to combat illegal organ trade and unethical medical practices, making unauthorized organ harvesting and the advertisement of organ sales illegal.
Offenders could face up to 10 years in prison or fines up to N10 million.
Additionally, other laws were signed, including the Consumer Protection Law, which strengthens consumer rights and safety, and the Fire and Rescue Service Law, which aims to improve emergency services.
There are also new measures for law enforcement training and victim assistance.
These laws are part of Lagos’s broader efforts to improve public welfare and ensure the safety and prosperity of its residents.
