Dele Farotimi’s Health: Kenneth Okonkwo’s Stern Warning on False Claims
Kenneth Okonkwo, Nollywood actor and politician, has recently spoken out in defense of activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi, who has faced allegations of defamation following his arrest.
Okonkwo strongly condemned the police’s actions, describing them as part of a broader issue of incompetence and corruption within Nigeria’s security and law enforcement agencies.
He criticized the unlawful process of arresting Farotimi before conducting an investigation, which he stated was contrary to the ruling of the Supreme Court that investigation should precede arrest.
Okonkwo also demanded Farotimi’s immediate release, emphasizing that those claiming defamation should seek redress in court rather than using the criminal justice system to stifle free speech.
This stance was shared by several human rights organizations, which have also expressed concern over the growing trend of criminalizing activism in Nigeria.
The activists argue that defamation should be resolved through civil courts rather than using the law to intimidate dissent.
