From Damascus to Moscow: Assad’s Exile and the £200M Cash Transfer
Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian dictator, reportedly fled his country with the assistance of Russian intelligence agents.
As the Syrian government faced increasing pressure from rebel forces, Russia became concerned about Assad’s survival. As a result, Moscow offered him a safe exit.
According to sources, Assad was airlifted from Syria in a Russian military plane, with the aircraft’s transponder turned off to avoid detection, and flown to Moscow.
This escape followed a period of intense Russian support for Assad’s regime during the Syrian Civil War, including both military and financial aid.
Despite Assad’s departure, Russia continues to maintain strong ties with the Assad family, who have found refuge and a luxurious lifestyle in Moscow.
