Yobe Fraud Case: Police Nab Impersonator Posing as Navy Personnel
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Agugu Joshua, for impersonating Nigerian Navy personnel and engaging in fraudulent activities.
Joshua was found in possession of a counterfeit Nigerian Navy identification card, which he allegedly used to deceive victims, particularly Point of Sale (POS) vendors and provision store owners.
His method involved generating fake receipts through his Kuda bank application, making it appear that transactions were successful when they were not.
To gain his victims’ trust, he would initially conduct a small, legitimate transaction before manipulating the app to edit subsequent receipts, delaying alerts to recipients and enabling him to abscond with money or goods.
The arrest was made possible through a covert operation by the State Intelligence Department on December 18, 2024.
The Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, has cautioned the public to remain vigilant against such scams and advised verifying transactions and identities to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
