Final Forfeiture of Emefiele-Linked Containers: What It Means
The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the permanent forfeiture of a warehouse and 54 steel containers located on a 1.925-hectare plot along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Magboro, Ogun State, to the Federal Government.
These properties were linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and were suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.
Justice Deinde Dipeolu issued the final forfeiture order after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presented an application stating that no individual or organization had come forward to claim ownership of the assets.
The EFCC had previously secured an interim forfeiture order on November 28, 2024, and published notices in national newspapers, inviting interested parties to show cause why the properties should not be permanently forfeited. With no claims made, the court proceeded with the final forfeiture.
This development is part of ongoing investigations into the activities of the former CBN Governor, who has faced multiple allegations of financial misconduct.
