Six Suspects Arrested in Rivers: Cybercrime and Fraud Targeting Foreign Women
The Zone 16 Command of the Nigeria Police Force, headquartered in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has arrested six male suspects in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for alleged involvement in cybercrime, ritual activities, and defrauding foreign women.
Details of the Arrest:
- Location: Progress Estate, Eneka, Rukpoku, Port Harcourt.
- Date: Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
- Arresting Unit: Zonal Anti-Money Laundering/Countering Financing Terrorism team, led by CSP Isaac Uhawha.
Suspects:
- Emmanuel Chinedu, 34, Anambra State.
- Uche Darlington Mark, 33, Abia State.
- Shimkayah Oju Ibor, 18, Rivers State.
- Jack Prosper, 22, Rivers State.
- Stephen Martins, 29, Rivers State.
- Micah Douglas, 22, Rivers State.
Items Recovered:
- One white SUV Mercedes GLK 350 (2009 model).
- Ritual items, including spiritual soaps, three white containers, a red cloth, and oil.
- Two laptops, phones, and other electronic devices.
- “Canadian Loud” (a type of hard drug).
Modus Operandi:
The suspects impersonated a Canadian actor named Keanu Reeves to defraud foreign women.
- Victims:
- Kirsi, a Finnish woman, defrauded of €1,300.
- Brenda, an American woman, defrauded of $12,000.
- Total Fraudulent Activities: Over ₦700 million.
Next Steps:
The suspects have confessed to their involvement in these fraudulent activities.
They will be arraigned in court and prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
