Deji Adeyanju’s Stand: Boosting Nigerian Lawyers’ Salaries to N250k Amid Economic Challenges
Deji Adeyanju, a Nigerian activist and lawyer, has expressed that, given the current economic conditions in Nigeria, lawyers should receive a minimum basic salary of ₦250,000, excluding additional benefits.
This statement highlights concerns about the remuneration of legal professionals in Nigeria, especially considering the rising cost of living and inflation.
Adeyanju has previously advocated for better compensation for judicial officers. In March 2024, he pledged to push for Supreme Court Justices to earn ₦15 million monthly, emphasizing the need for adequate remuneration to maintain the integrity and independence of the judiciary.
The call for a minimum salary of ₦250,000 for lawyers has sparked discussions within the legal community and the public about fair compensation, the economic realities of the country, and the sustainability of such salary structures for law firms and other employers.
