Food Security Concerns: Jesutega Onokpasa Criticizes FG’s Efforts
Jesutega Onokpasa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has openly criticized the Federal Government’s handling of food security in Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily,” Onokpasa expressed concern over the government’s failure to ensure adequate food production, which he believes has led to recent tragic stampedes during food distribution events in Anambra and the Federal Capital Territory.
Onokpasa stated, “We have failed woefully in producing food for our citizens.” He recalled that during the APC’s election campaign, the party was often referred to as “Agbadorians” due to President Bola Tinubu’s emphasis on boosting agricultural output.
However, he lamented that these promises have not materialized, acknowledging the government’s shortcomings in this area.
He further emphasized the urgency of prioritizing agriculture, noting that crops can be planted and harvested within a few months, providing a relatively quick solution to food shortages.
Onokpasa urged the President to focus on food production, stating, “Even if we cannot reduce the price of fuel, let our people have food to eat.”
These remarks come amid growing concerns about food insecurity in Nigeria, highlighted by recent incidents where over 30 individuals lost their lives in stampedes during charity food distributions.
Onokpasa’s candid admission underscores the need for immediate and effective action to address the nation’s food production challenges.
