2.1 Tons of Cocaine: Jamaican Drug Lord Among Four Sentenced to 28 Years
Four drug kingpins have been sentenced to a total of 28 years in prison following their involvement in the historic seizure of 2,139.55 kilograms of cocaine at a residential estate in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The convicts include 71-year-old Soji Jubril Oke, 55-year-old Wasiu Akinade, 67-year-old Emmanuel Arinze Chukwu, and 44-year-old Jamaican national Kelvin Christopher Smith.
The Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Yellim Bogoro, handed down the sentences after the individuals were charged with conspiracy to form and operate a drug trafficking organization, management and financing of such an organization, and the importation and possession of cocaine.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of assets linked to the convicts, including properties in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos, ₦67 million, and $50,000.
This case marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s fight against illicit drug trafficking, representing the largest singular cocaine seizure in the nation’s history.
