Abuja Faces Blackout: Essential Maintenance by TCN on Transmission Substations
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced planned maintenance activities that will lead to temporary power outages in specific areas of Abuja this weekend.
On Saturday, December 28, 2024, maintenance was scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on a 60MVA power transformer and its associated switchgear at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation. This resulted in a four-hour power interruption affecting Gwagwalada and its surrounding areas.
Additionally, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., maintenance will be conducted on one of the 60MVA power transformers at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
This work is expected to cause power interruptions in the following areas:
- Wuye
- Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters
- Federal Medical Centre
- Coca-Cola factory
- Idu Railway Station
- Citec Estate
- Life Camp
TCN has apologized for the inconvenience, emphasizing that the maintenance is essential to ensure the optimal performance of power equipment.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to plan accordingly and consider alternative power arrangements during the maintenance periods.
