Rufai Oseni Challenges NNPC: Operational Deadlines for PH and Warri Refineries
Rufai Oseni, a journalist and Arise TV news anchor, has expressed skepticism regarding recent announcements about the resumption of refinery activities at Nigeria’s Warri Refinery.
In a statement, Oseni remarked, “Until when the catalytic cracking unit of PH and Warri refinery starts to work then I will take the NNPC seriously. I don’t celebrate half measures.”
His comments follow an announcement by Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), on December 30, 2024, about the resumption of operations at the Warri Refinery.
Oseni’s reference to the catalytic cracking units highlights a critical component in the refining process. Catalytic cracking units are essential for breaking down larger hydrocarbon molecules into more valuable gasoline and other products.
Their operational status is vital for the refineries to function at full capacity and produce refined petroleum products efficiently.
The Port Harcourt and Warri refineries have faced prolonged periods of inactivity due to various challenges, including maintenance issues and funding constraints.
The NNPC has been under public scrutiny to restore these facilities to full operational status to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
Oseni’s statement reflects a broader sentiment among industry observers and the public, emphasizing the need for comprehensive and effective measures to revitalize Nigeria’s refining capacity fully.
