Ilorin New Year Tragedy: Suspected Assassins Kill Ex-Federal Works Controller
On January 1, 2025, AbdulRazaq Ajani, a retired controller of works at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, was tragically murdered by suspected assassins in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at his residence on Dele Gege Street, Aderoju area, off Obafemi Awolowo Road in the Tanke area of Ilorin. Ajani had just returned from Offa, where he spent the Christmas and New Year holidays with his family.
Upon arrival, four young men, estimated to be between 18 and 22 years old, entered his compound. CCTV footage revealed two of them standing by the gate, one sipping water from a plastic bottle, while the other two casually walked into the compound.
Ajani approached them at the main door, where they engaged him in brief conversation before attacking him with what appeared to be small axes, leading to his death in the presence of his family.
The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack. The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the incident and initiated an investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made.
Ajani retired from the Federal Ministry of Works about four years ago but had accepted a contract appointment with the ministry last year.
He was well-regarded in his community, and his untimely death has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep mourning.
The motive behind this heinous act remains unknown, and the police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid in their investigation. The community is hopeful that the perpetrators will be apprehended and brought to justice promptly.
