Abuja Police Nab Suspected Manhole Thieves: A Closer Look at the Arrest
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 50 individuals suspected of involvement in the theft and vandalism of manhole covers and other public infrastructure in Abuja.
The suspects were apprehended during targeted operations across various districts, including Kabusa, Garki, Mabushi, and Wuse. Recovered items include over 25 manhole covers, solar streetlights, high-voltage cables, and construction materials such as galvanized rods used in flyover projects.
Additionally, vehicles and tools believed to have been used in the commission of these crimes were seized.
The FCT Administration’s Secretary, Command and Control Centre, Peter Olumuji, emphasized that the activities of these vandals pose significant dangers to residents, particularly motorists who may encounter open manholes on roads.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure that those responsible face justice.
