Abuja’s Islamiyyah School IED Attack: Understanding the Impact of Violence on Education
On January 6, 2025, an explosion occurred at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in the Kuchibiyu Community of Bwari Area Council, near Abuja, Nigeria. The incident resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to two others.
According to police reports, three men from Katsina State brought an improvised explosive device (IED) to the school. While handling the device on the school’s veranda, it detonated, killing two of the men instantly. The third man and a female trader nearby sustained severe injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
The owner of the Islamiyya school has been taken into custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working to determine the motives behind bringing the explosive device to the educational institution.
This tragic event has heightened concerns about security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and surrounding regions. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
