Military Operations in Rivers: Troops Eliminate Criminal Gang Linked to the Murder of Four Soldiers and Kidnapping of Two Koreans
In a decisive operation, troops from the 5 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have neutralized members of a criminal gang responsible for the killing of four soldiers and the abduction of two Korean expatriates in Rivers State.
The incident, which occurred on December 12, 2023, involved an attack on staff of Daewoo Nigeria Limited in the Kalaogbokolo area of Ahoada West Local Government Area.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the return of the wanted criminals to the community, the troops conducted a coordinated cordon-and-search operation. This led to the recovery of several arms and ammunition, including:
- One AK-47 rifle
- One Fabrique Nationale rifle
- One pump-action gun
- Two locally made rifles
- Three AK-47 magazines
- One FN magazine
- Three rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition
- Thirteen rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition
During the operation, two members of the gang were apprehended. However, while being moved for further investigation, the suspects attempted to escape into the bush. After a prolonged pursuit, both were neutralized.
The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to bringing perpetrators of such heinous acts to justice and has reassured the public of its dedication to safeguarding lives and property in the region.
