66 Kidnap Victims Saved, but Sokoto Guard Loses Life in Accidental Shooting
A member of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps tragically lost his life due to an accidental firearm discharge shortly after participating in a successful rescue operation.
The joint operation, led by the Nigerian Army, took place on January 6, 2025, in Tidibali Forest, located in the eastern part of Sokoto State, and resulted in the rescue of 66 kidnap victims.
Colonel Ahmed Usman (rtd), Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security, confirmed the incident, stating that the operative was handling his firearm upon returning to their base when it accidentally discharged, leading to his death.
The Sokoto State government has been actively sponsoring operations to combat banditry and other criminal activities in the region.
The recent operation not only led to the rescue of 66 kidnap victims but also resulted in the neutralization of several bandits. Colonel Usman emphasized that these efforts are ongoing, with the aim of eradicating criminal elements from the state.
The rescued victims have been transported to Isa town in Isa Local Government Area, where they are receiving necessary care and support as authorities work towards reuniting them with their families.
