Tinubu and China’s Foreign Affairs Minister: Highlights from Their Confidential Meeting
President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in a closed-door meeting with China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This meeting is part of Wang Yi’s two-day working visit to Nigeria.
Earlier, Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar held a high-profile meeting with Wang Yi and his delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and China, focusing on cooperation in trade, investment, health, technology, and infrastructure development.
Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering a more resilient partnership with China, recalling President Tinubu’s visit to China in September 2024, during which four Memoranda of Understanding were signed. He emphasized that the implementation of these agreements remains on track.
In his remarks, Wang Yi stated that his visit marks the continuation of deliberations from the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit held last year.
This series of meetings underscores the ongoing efforts to enhance the strategic partnership between Nigeria and China, with a focus on economic growth, infrastructure development, and regional security.
