Mechanical Failure at Mollie Kathleen Mine Leads to Fatal Incident
A tragic incident occurred at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine, a popular tourist attraction in Colorado, where a mechanical malfunction trapped 23 people underground.
Sadly, one person lost their life, and four others sustained minor injuries. The incident happened at about 500 feet deep when the elevator system malfunctioned, trapping visitors.
While 11 people were rescued from the elevator, another 12 were stranded about 1,000 feet underground for several hours before they were safely rescued.
The mine, which dates back to the 1890s, is no longer active as a mining operation but has been offering tours for over 50 years.
Emergency teams, including mine rescue experts, were deployed to the scene to carry out the successful rescue.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and relief for those who were rescued.
