Explosion in Imo Sparks Major Police Investigation
On January 12, 2025, a midnight explosion occurred in Umuneke Community, Mbieri, within the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. The blast destroyed a newly completed, unoccupied building, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The Imo State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the incident. Deputy Commissioner of Police Henry Okoye confirmed the explosion and stated that the Anti-Bomb Squad had visited the site to ensure the area was free of any remaining explosives.
Residents reported hearing a loud explosion around 1:00 am, followed by the discovery of the destroyed building. Some eyewitnesses mentioned seeing a suspected drone hovering over the area prior to the explosion.
