Ibadan Stampede Legal Update: Bail Granted for Key Figures
On January 13, 2025, the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan granted bail to three individuals involved in the tragic stampede at the Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, which resulted in the deaths of 35 children. The accused are:
- Naomi Silekunola: Former wife of the Ooni of Ife and owner of Agidigbo FM, an Ibadan-based radio station.
- Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat: Owner of Agidigbo FM.
- Abdullahi Fasasi: Principal of Islamic High School, Basorun.
Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin set the bail conditions as follows:
- Bail Amount: ₦10 million each.
- Sureties: Two sureties per defendant, each providing land documents within the court’s jurisdiction.
- Additional Conditions: Deposit of international passports with the court and a prohibition on granting press interviews during the case.
The case has been adjourned for further hearing on January 27, 2025.
