Ex-Attorney General Lawan Affirms Legitimacy of Ado-Bayero as Emir of Kano
Former Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, M.A. Lawan, has affirmed that Aminu Ado Bayero remains the legitimate Emir of Kano. This statement follows recent legal developments concerning the Kano Emirate.
Lawan clarified that the Court of Appeal’s judgment did not validate the disputed Emirate Council Law of 2024 or the Kano State Government’s actions regarding chieftaincy appointments. He emphasized that the court’s decision did not support the government’s position.
The former Attorney General also highlighted that the Court of Appeal’s judgment overturned the Kano State High Court’s decision, which had previously nullified the Emirate of Kano and other Emirates established under the new law.
He noted that the High Court’s judgment had paved the way for the legitimacy of Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II as Emir. However, the Court of Appeal’s ruling set aside this judgment, ordering a retrial before another judge.
Lawan concluded by stating that the continued occupation of the throne by Aminu Ado Bayero remains legitimate, while the attempted enthronement of Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II remains questionable.
