Bashir Hadejia Released: Analyzing the Legal Proceedings Surrounding Matawalle’s Former Aide and Treason Charges
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the unconditional release of Bashir Hadejia, a former aide to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. Hadejia was arrested on August 12, 2024, on allegations of treason and subversive activities.
The court described his detention as unlawful and a violation of his fundamental human rights. Justice Emeka Nwite, who delivered the judgment, also awarded N10 million in damages against the Inspector-General of Police.
Hadejia’s arrest was reportedly politically motivated, stemming from disagreements with his former principal, Bello Matawalle. The court’s decision underscores the importance of upholding individual rights and due process in legal proceedings.
