Urgent Update: Cholera Spread in Rivers with 9 Deaths Reported
The Rivers State government has confirmed an outbreak of cholera affecting the Akuku-Toru and Andoni Local Government Areas. Health Commissioner Dr. Adaeze Oreh reported five confirmed cases in Akuku-Toru and nine associated deaths—six in Akuku-Toru and three in Andoni.
As of January 13, 2025, there have been 41 suspected cholera cases in these areas. In response, the Ministry of Health has activated emergency response teams to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.
Residents are advised to maintain proper sanitation, consume safe water, and seek immediate medical attention if experiencing symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, or dehydration.
