Shocking Incident in Ogun: Man Arrested for Alleged Cow Poisoning
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Samuel Egbetokun, a 30-year-old man, for allegedly poisoning cows in the Alabata community of Odeda Local Government Area. According to the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, Egbetokun laced cassava with rat poison and threw it to the grazing cows, resulting in the deaths of two out of three cows that consumed the substance.
The cattle rearer, Boji Sanni, reported the incident after noticing the cows collapsing post-consumption. The deceased cows were valued at approximately ₦1,500,000. Egbetokun has confessed to the crime and is currently in police custody. The Commissioner of Police has emphasized that this case will serve as a deterrent to prevent potential retaliatory actions from herders or cattle rearers.
This incident follows a similar case earlier in the week in the same local government area, where a farmer, Ismail Apitipiti, was arrested for allegedly attacking a herdsman and injuring one of his cattle.
The cow, valued at approximately ₦1,000,000, sustained a deep machete cut near its tail and is currently receiving veterinary treatment. The suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation and remains in police custody.
