Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Return to Football: Leading Besiktas After Manchester United
Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as the new head coach of Turkish club Beşiktaş, marking his return to management after a four-year hiatus since his departure from Manchester United in 2021.
Solskjaer has signed an 18-month contract with Beşiktaş, which will see him lead the team through the remainder of the current season and the entirety of the next.
Beşiktaş is currently positioned sixth in the Turkish Super Lig, trailing the league leaders, Galatasaray, by a significant margin.
Solskjaer’s appointment follows the interim tenure of Serdar Topraktepe, who took charge after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s departure.
In his new role, Solskjaer will eventually face Fenerbahçe, managed by Jose Mourinho, the man he replaced at Manchester United in 2018.
Solskjaer’s managerial experience includes stints at Molde, Cardiff City, and Manchester United.
He is expected to arrive in Istanbul on Friday to begin preparations for Beşiktaş’s upcoming Europa League match against Athletic Bilbao.
