PDP BoT Chair Wabara Stands Firm: No Debate with Disrespectful Critics

Respect for Elders: PDP BoT Chair Wabara’s Response to Wike

The political landscape in Rivers State has recently been marked by a series of exchanges involving prominent figures. Former Governor Nyesom Wike, now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has been at the center of these discussions due to his remarks about Dr. Peter Odili, another former governor of the state.

In response to Wike’s comments, a group of Concerned Elders of Rivers State, including former Governor Celestine Omehia and former Deputy Governor Tele Ikuru, issued a statement condemning Wike’s remarks as “unbecoming and disrespectful.” They emphasized the importance of mutual respect, especially towards elders, and highlighted that any affront to their dignity is an injury to the entire community.

The elders linked Wike’s outburst to Dr. Odili’s advice against an alleged impeachment plot targeting the current Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara. They stated that Dr. Odili, acting in a statesmanlike manner, advised Wike against such actions, and when Wike refused, Dr. Odili sided with Governor Fubara in the interest of the people of Rivers State.

In a related development, 45 Rivers elders criticized Dr. Odili for his comments on Wike, questioning whether Dr. Odili deserved respect after being deliberately disrespectful to the Minister of the FCT. This group of elders defended Wike, suggesting that Dr. Odili’s actions were inappropriate.
