Suspicious Student Death at Bowen University Leads to Exam Suspension
Bowen University in Iwo, Osun State, has announced the tragic death of a male student under suspicious circumstances on campus. In response, the university has temporarily suspended ongoing first-semester examinations to address the situation.
According to a statement by the university’s Registrar, B.T. Adetona, the incident occurred around 8:20 PM on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. A staff member and some students observed the student running towards the staff quarters, where he suddenly collapsed, hitting his head on the pavement. Upon inspection, it was evident that he had sustained a wound in his abdominal region prior to the fall. Further medical examination revealed additional bruises around his neck, suggesting a possible struggle. Despite prompt medical attention, the student was pronounced dead later that night.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the student sustained the injury while en route to his hostel. His last known communication was at 8:01 PM, informing a friend that he had not yet reached his hostel. He was found at the staff quarters approximately 19 minutes later.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the student may have been attacked by an individual named Stanley, a spillover student, possibly over a personal dispute. However, these details remain speculative pending official confirmation.
The university community is in mourning, and authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the student’s death. The suspension of examinations is part of the institution’s efforts to manage the situation and ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff.
