Addressing Controversy: CDS Musa Responds to Allegations Against Soldiers
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has addressed allegations that Nigerian soldiers conducted forced abortions on women who were victims of Boko Haram insurgents. In a recent statement, General Musa dismissed the claims, stating that such accusations are often brought up whenever the military is making progress in its fight against insurgency.
“Whenever we are succeeding, they throw this at us to make us look bad,” Musa said, emphasizing that the Nigerian military remains committed to upholding human rights and protecting civilians.
He described the allegations as an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the armed forces and undermine their efforts in combating terrorism in the region.
The Nigerian military has previously faced scrutiny over human rights concerns in its counterterrorism operations, but authorities have consistently denied any systemic wrongdoing, maintaining that they follow strict ethical guidelines in their operations.
