Photos: Emotional Reunion as Israeli Soldiers Freed from Gaza Hostage Situation
On January 25, 2025, Hamas released four Israeli female soldiers—Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag—after 477 days of captivity. They were abducted on October 7, 2023, during an assault on Israel’s Nahal Oz military base.
The release was part of a ceasefire agreement, which also included Israel freeing 200 Palestinian prisoners. The soldiers were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza City before returning to Israel, where they reunited with their families and underwent medical evaluations.
The release was marked by a public ceremony in Gaza City, where the soldiers were paraded on stage before being transferred. This event was widely broadcast and showcased by Hamas.
This exchange follows a previous release of three Israeli female hostages on January 19, 2025, under the same ceasefire agreement. Despite these developments, many hostages remain in captivity, and negotiations for their release are ongoing.
