Devastating Boko Haram Attack on Borno Military Base Leaves 19 Dead
On January 24, 2025, Boko Haram insurgents launched a significant attack on the 149 Battalion military base in Malam-Fatori, Borno State, Nigeria.
The assault resulted in the deaths of at least 20 Nigerian soldiers, including a commanding officer. The insurgents, equipped with multiple gun trucks, overran the base, causing surviving soldiers to retreat to safer locations. They also destroyed numerous buildings and military vehicles during the attack.
This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in northeastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram and its splinter faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), continue to operate actively.
Both groups have a history of targeting military installations and civilian populations in the region.
