Impact of U.S. Increasing Arrests of Illegal Immigrants to 1,800 a Day
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been directed to increase its daily arrest target of illegal immigrants to 1,800, with each of the agency’s 25 offices expected to make at least 75 arrests per day.
This directive follows a series of intensified enforcement actions, particularly in sanctuary cities such as New York, Denver, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Boston. In New York City, for instance, recent operations led to the apprehension of individuals involved in serious crimes, including attempted murder and multiple sexual assaults.
The administration emphasizes that the primary focus is on apprehending illegal immigrants with criminal records who pose significant threats to public safety. However, the increased enforcement has raised concerns among immigrant communities and advocacy groups, who fear potential overreach and the impact on families.
