Government Warning: Risks of Explosive Storage in Illegal Mining
The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a warning to citizens against storing explosive devices in their homes for illegal mining activities. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that such practices pose significant risks to lives and property. He urged individuals involved in these activities to cease immediately.
This warning follows a recent dynamite explosion in Sabon Pegi, Niger State, which resulted in loss of lives and extensive property damage. In response, the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has directed individuals engaged in illegal mining to surrender their explosives and other weapons.
The Federal Government is taking steps to address the issue of illegal mining and the associated dangers of improper explosive storage. The National Orientation Agency has been tasked with enhancing public awareness campaigns to prevent such incidents. Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development is reorganizing the sector to curtail illegal activities.
