Borussia Dortmund Appoints Former Bayern Munich Boss Niko Kovac as New Manager
Borussia Dortmund has officially appointed Niko Kovac as their new head coach, succeeding Nuri Sahin. The 53-year-old Croatian has signed an 18-month contract and will assume his duties following this weekend’s Bundesliga match against Heidenheim.
Kovac, who previously managed Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt, and VfL Wolfsburg, brings a wealth of Bundesliga experience to Dortmund. In his initial statement, he emphasized his commitment to instilling “determination, heart, and willingness” in the team.
Dortmund’s CEO, Lars Ricken, expressed confidence in Kovac’s appointment, highlighting his familiarity with the league and his track record of success. The club aims to leverage Kovac’s experience to achieve their objectives for the remainder of the season.
Kovac will officially take charge on Sunday, January 31, 2025, and is expected to be on the sidelines for Dortmund’s upcoming fixtures.
