Ola Great Heads to Spain: 100k Retweets Earn Nigerian Footballer Trial with Sevilla
Nigerian amateur footballer Osineye Oladipupo Ayotunde, known as “Ola Great,” has garnered significant attention after securing over 100,000 retweets on X (formerly Twitter), fulfilling a challenge set by Spanish club Sevilla FC. On January 20, 2025, Ola Great reached out to Sevilla’s official English account, inquiring about the number of reposts required for a trial with the team. The club responded with “100k,” and with the support of numerous netizens, including Nigerian influencers, the target was surpassed within approximately 24 hours.
Following the achievement, Ola Great expressed his gratitude on X, stating, “Thank you to everyone that made this happen; thank you, Twitter NG, for this. My heart is full of so many emotions right now.”
Sevilla FC acknowledged the accomplishment by sharing a link to a previous announcement about the creation of a new international squad, which will compete in Spain’s ninth-tier Tecera Andaluza and feature foreign players aged 18 and above.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from Sevilla regarding the specifics of Ola Great’s trial. The situation has sparked discussions among fans and media outlets, with many urging the club to honor its commitment.
If the trial proceeds, Ola Great could potentially join fellow Nigerian players Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke at Sevilla, marking a significant milestone in his football career.
