Selena Gomez Under Fire from Trump Administration for Deportation Comments
In late January 2025, singer and actress Selena Gomez shared an emotional video on Instagram, expressing her distress over the U.S. government’s mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. In the since-deleted video, Gomez tearfully stated, “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”
The Trump administration responded by releasing a video featuring mothers whose children were allegedly killed by undocumented individuals. The video, shared on the White House’s official Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts, was titled “Moms of Victims of Illegal Aliens SLAM Selena Gomez: You Didn’t Cry for Our Daughters.” In it, the mothers criticized Gomez’s emotional display, questioning its sincerity and expressing support for President Trump’s immigration policies.
Tom Homan, the former director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and appointed “border czar” by President Trump, defended the administration’s actions. He emphasized that deportation efforts target individuals with criminal histories and stated that operations would continue “without apology.”
Additionally, Sam Parker, a 2018 Republican Senate candidate from Utah, responded to Gomez’s video by suggesting her deportation. He wrote on X, “Deport Selena Gomez.” Gomez replied with humor, stating, “Oh, Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.”
