2027 Presidency: A Challenge for Opposition Leaders
In response to recent criticisms from opposition figures, the Nigerian Presidency has challenged these leaders to test their popularity in the 2027 general elections. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, emphasized that the current administration remains focused on addressing national issues and is unperturbed by political distractions.
This statement follows a national conference in Abuja on strengthening democracy, which saw participation from prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi. Some attendees used the platform to voice criticisms of the current administration.
Dare described the recent remarks from opposition leaders as predictable attempts to stir controversy while President Tinubu was away in Tanzania addressing Nigeria’s energy challenges. He urged Nigerians to scrutinize the antecedents of these political figures and choose between “political hecklers and real progressives.”
