Violent Incident Claims Lives of Security Chief and Son
On January 31, 2025, Richard Timothy, the Chief Security Officer of Adokiye Amiesimaka International Stadium in Rivers State, and his 23-year-old son, Silas, were fatally shot by unidentified gunmen at their residence in Igwuruta-Ali, near Port Harcourt.
According to Mr. Timothy’s widow, Grace, the assailants, numbering about five and dressed in black, ambushed the family as they returned home around 9 p.m. As they drove into their compound, the gunmen entered with them, shooting her husband multiple times in the head before turning their weapons on Silas, who had recently graduated from the University of Port Harcourt and was awaiting deployment for the National Youth Service Corps.
Grace managed to escape but was later captured by the attackers, who demanded money. She informed them she had none, and during the ensuing scuffle, one of the gunmen was accidentally shot. The assailants then fled, leaving her behind. Upon returning to her home, she discovered her son’s lifeless body.
Grace revealed that her husband had previously received threats due to his efforts to prevent the looting of property at the stadium. He had reported these threats to the Igwuruta Police Station and had arrested individuals involved in theft both at the stadium and in their neighborhood. She urged authorities to ensure that her husband’s death was not in vain, emphasizing his commitment to justice.
The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murders. Spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident, stating that the police recovered three expended AK-47 cartridges from the scene. The Commissioner of Police has directed the deployment of all necessary intelligence to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
