Poultry Association Warns: N10,000 Crate of Eggs Ahead
The Poultry Association of Nigeria has raised alarms that the price of a crate of eggs could soar to N10,000 if immediate measures are not taken to support the industry.
The current price is about N5,500 per crate, but the rising cost of production—primarily due to increased feed prices and transportation costs following the removal of fuel subsidies—has put significant pressure on poultry farmers.
Without urgent intervention, such as government subsidies or grain assistance, the price hike is seen as inevitable.
The industry is also facing challenges in securing financial support, as banks have become reluctant to offer loans to poultry farmers.
