Young Pupil Arrested for Using Father’s Gun in Threats
On January 30, 2025, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested 13-year-old Samuel Sunday, a pupil at St. Paul Primary School in Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area, for allegedly threatening his classmates with a locally made pistol. The arrest followed reports that Samuel was brandishing the weapon on school premises and intimidating fellow pupils.
Upon interrogation, Samuel confessed to having possessed the firearm since November 2024, stating that he found it in a wardrobe in his father’s bedroom. Consequently, his father has also been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, emphasized the command’s commitment to addressing such incidents and urged residents to provide useful information to assist in maintaining safety and security within the state.
