Indian Migrants Return Home After US Deportation
On February 5, 2025, a U.S. military aircraft transported 104 Indian migrants back to India, marking the first instance of such a deportation under the current U.S. administration. The plane landed in Amritsar, Punjab, repatriating individuals who had entered the United States illegally.
This action aligns with President Donald Trump’s intensified immigration policies, emphasizing the removal of undocumented individuals. The deportation occurred shortly before a scheduled meeting between President Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, where immigration is anticipated to be a key discussion point.
India has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the U.S. on immigration matters, agreeing to accept deported citizens following identity verification. The U.S. is India’s largest trading partner, and both nations are keen on strengthening strategic ties, particularly in countering China’s influence.
